Mass driver cannons operate on the same principle as their predecessor kinetic projectile weapons have for centuries, but are much more deadly and efficient than old designs. An energy discharge of respectable proportions propels a heavy bullet, which impacts a target and delivers devastating force. Occasionally, a bullet can pierce and pass through an enemy. The energy discharge in the Gate Defender’s case is similar to a laser blast, thus giving its discharge a similar appearance.
